COMPOSITIONS OF PURANDARADASA - Part 1
Purandara Dasa, often referred to as the "Father of Carnatic Music," was a prolific composer, saint, and musician who lived in the 15th century. He played a significant role in shaping the Carnatic music tradition and is credited with laying the foundation for the structured teaching and learning of music through his compositions, known as "Dasa Sahitya."
Dasa Sahitya was known to have brought about social reformation, condeming casteism, untouchability and other social evils, which Purandaradasa educated the common man through his simple compositions known as Dasapadas/ Keertanas. His songs are known for their devotional fervor, simplicity, and melodic beauty. They continue to be an integral part of the Carnatic music tradition and are widely sung and cherished by musicians and music enthusiasts alike.
